Hola! I am Alex, a freshman at Lynchburg. I am majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Psychology. I am on the field hockey team and I am also in the Westover Honors Program. I signed up for this trip so that I will be able to expand my world view and be fully submerged in a culture that is unlike any I have experienced. I also decided to go to Chile so that I could learn about traveling on my own and be able to face cultural barriers and problem solve. My main hopes for this trip is to be able to learn more Spanish and also get a feel for how Chileans live. I want to appreciate our differences and not be afraid to learn and ask lots of questions. I also would like to learn more people skills and get more used to interacting with people that are not similar to me.

  1. Hi Alex! I'm so excited to get to know you better and have the opportunity to experience a lot of new things! I was afraid I would be the only one who wasn't an education major or minor, and I am simply taking the education credits for the pure passion and interest for the subject, but I'm glad there is someone else in a similar situation as me! Also it's awesome you want to learn more Spanish! I love the language and can't wait to learn more also!

  2. Hi Alex! Going to another country is a huge culture shock but so worth it! Sometimes you have to go outside of your comfort zone to see amazing sights! I'm really scared of asking questions and saying "the wrong things" but hopefully people will understand the culture barriers! I can't wait to see you there!

  3. Hey Alex. I think its pretty smart that you-re studying abroad as a freshman because you will probably have a better appreciation for our culture and campus having this experience. You will also develop skills that took me until junior year to learn. I would also like to get better people skills since I tend to get awkward around strangers. We all will learn a ton from the Chileans and hopefully they can learn from us as well.
